Royal Oxford Hotel is less than 0.5 miles from Oxford’s historic centre. Bamboo Restaurant is the on-site restaurant, and Oxford Rail Station is 200 yards away.

The hotel is within a 10-minute walk of many of Oxford University’s Colleges. Riverside pubs and restaurants are just a minutes’ walk, whilst Oxford Bus Station is 0.2 miles away. The hotel is located within walking distance to the train and the bus stations as well as all Oxford tourist attractions. Customers arriving by car can pre-book with us a secure parking space located next door to the hotel.

Our dedicated and attentive staff will ensure that your stay at the hotel is as enjoyable as possible. Reception is open 24/7 and we offer a wide range of services. In addition to porter’s service, wake-up calls and administration services, we offer express check in and check out, dry-cleaning, luggage storage and much more.

Our en-suite rooms have their own individual style and charm. All rooms are comfortable, well appointed and offer various facilities including wireless internet, double glazed windows, air-conditioning, access to an iron and ironing board.

    Oxford has recently undergone an extensive facelift – first of all, there was the opening of the Westgate Shopping Centre (which should lift Oxford higher than 48th in the list of ‘Most Desirable UK Shopping Districts’), and now there is the Royal Oxford Hotel, which is midway through its own 26-room refurbishment.

    What does that mean? Well, completely new bathrooms, brand-new carpets throughout, and an overhaul of the breakfast area. What remains unchanged is the hotel’s excellent location – right opposite the Said Business school, and within a 5-minute walk of the new Westgate…but still very close to the railway station for those who still prefer to do their shopping at Bicester Village!

    As always, the welcome at the front desk is warm and heartfelt. Need to check-in early? Not a problem, they’ll either store bags or allocate a room if one is available. Car parking (a huge bug bear in Oxford!)? Allocated covered parking is £10 per night, just across the road at a nearby retail outlet. Advice on where to go in Oxford? Yes, the receptionists can actually tell you where to go and what you might like to do, providing maps and citing personal experience.

    The rooms are spacious with all the usual tea and coffee-making facilities, as well as modern essentials such as fans (not usually necessary in January) and hairdryers (most important for ladies…and for those men who blow dry their hair!) Moreover, the beds are extremely comfortable, so much so that there is a real danger you might chose to lie-in and not explore everything that Oxford has to offer on your doorstep!

    Henry James once said, “Oxford lends sweetness to labour and dignity to leisure.” In which case, The Royal Oxford Hotel must rank as the most dignified of stays.

    You could say the Christmas came early for the Royal Oxford Hotel – the 15th of December 2015 to be precise. That was the date when the new roundabout and Central Square in front of the hotel was completed, lending a sudden tranquil air to what had previously been a busy thoroughfare.

    Some advantages are self-evident – rooms which had been soundproofed for heavy traffic (double-glazed, then secondary glazed on top) now exude a zen-like calm. Other advantages though will only become apparent in Spring when hotel guests will be able to enjoy their drinks & meals al fresco (weather permitting!) at new outdoor seating overlooking the square.

    Hospitality. That’s the key differentiator here. Oh, and service too. Marzena, the manageress, has been here for 16 years and knows what it takes to keep guests coming back time and time again (a Professor at the nearby Said Business School is currently in his 7th year of residency) from the warm front-desk welcome to…

    The attached restaurant is Korean and was full of locals (Koreans that is) which is always a good sign. The sharing dishes appeared especially popular, comprising of a raised burner in the middle of the table, rather like a Korean fondue (without the cheese!) from which everybody helped themselves to noodles, meat, seafood…etc. It looked very good, but we were in a hurry and plumped for the 3-course set menu which was very tasty. Incidentally, the restaurant also provides the in-hotel meals, and I can safely report that any concerns over a Korean cooked breakfast the next morning were quickly assuaged – it was exactly the same as full English breakfast, with not a dash of kimchi in sight!

    Rooms are well-appointed, complete with nice touches such as proper kettles that can be lifted from their base to be filled up (a personal bugbear of mine is when you have to unplug and drag leads around the room behind you) together with all the usual accompaniments – tea, coffee, biscuits…etc.

    The revamped website, which also finished its makeover in Dec-15, has been a big success – over 30% of bookings are now from mobile devices. So, if it’s mobility that you’re after, where better than the Royal Oxford? – park securely (at a special hotel rate), walk serenely (it’s only 5 mins to the Centre – not possible from most ‘Oxford’ hotels) and leave all your worries behind.
